  2. Make ready whole meal or plain flour

  9. Take lemon: juice and zest

  1. Make crumble rubbing butter and flour together until they resemble breadcrumbs. Stir in brown sugar and ginger.
  2. Cut apple (or rhubarb) and place in three or four ramekins or an oven proof dish. Make sure bottom of dish covered by the fruit.
  3. Sprinkle fruit with juice and zest of half a lemon (or orange if preferred) and golden caster sugar and a touch of ground cinnamon if liked
  4. Spread previously prepared crumble on top.
  5. Bake for 25 or 30 minutes at 190C until golden brown. Serve with yogurt, custard, cream….
