The ingredients needed to make Tomato Rasam:
  1. Get Big tomatoes
  2. Take piece of ginger
  3. Make ready bulb garlic
  4. Take coriander leaves with stem
  5. Prepare dry chilli
  6. Prepare mustard seeds
  7. Get urud dal
  8. Get shallot sliced
  9. Get curry leaves
  10. Prepare pepper balls
  11. Take jeera
  12. Prepare turmeric powder
  13. Prepare Salt
  14. Get Oil
  15. Prepare hing / asafoetida
Instructions to make Tomato Rasam:
  1. In microwave or a vessel cook the tomatoes to good pulpy state.
  2. Heat oil in a earthen pot. Splutter the mustard seeds.. Add the urud Dal and then the diced shallots, dry chillies and curry leaves.
  3. Grind the peppercones, jeera, Coriander with stalk,ginger and garlic to a coarse paste. Don't grind it smooth.
  4. Add this grinded paste to the earthen pot and stir nicely till raw smell goes off. Add the turmeric powder, hingand salt to it. Give it a good stir.
  5. Add the tomatoes precooked and give good stir add water and cover and cook nicely. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  6. Let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes and serve it hot with rice or as a soup.
