  1. Mix flour, butter, salt and sugar

  3. Now slowly add warm water stirring in a bit at a time until you have a dough which is elastic rather than sticky.
  4. Tip dough onto your work surface lightly sprinkled with flour. knead the dough for around 10 mins.
  5. Lightly oil your mixing bowl. Put your kneaded dough into the bowl and prove in warm area for 1 hour. Place a damp towel or oiled clingfilm over the top.
  6. After proving, tip out and knead for a further 2 mins shaping the dough and placing it into a bread baking tray. Prove for a further 2 hours.
  7. The dough should have now doubled in size. Cut a 1cm deep slit down the centre of the dough. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°c for 20 minutes or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapping it on its underside.
