Rasam is one of the most favored of recent trending foods in the world. It is enjoyed by millions every day. It’s simple, it is quick, it tastes yummy. They are fine and they look wonderful. Rasam is something that I have loved my whole life.
To get started with this recipe, we must first prepare a few ingredients. You can have rasam using 19 ingredients and 14 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
Prepare 1 tsp For the rasam powder coriander seeds
Get 3 whole dry Kashmiri red chillies, broken into pieces
Make ready 5-6 black peppercorns
Take 1 tsp toovar dal
Get 1/2 tsp chana dal
Make ready 1 pinch cumin seeds
Make ready Other ingredients
Make ready 2 tbsp toovar dal
Prepare 1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
Get 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
Take 1 pinch turmeric powder
Prepare 1 pinch asafoetida
Get to taste Salt
Make ready 2 tsp ghee
Make ready 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
Get 6-7 curry leaves
Make ready 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander
Get 1 cup chopped onion
Take 1 tbsp chopped garlic
Instructions to make Rasam:
For the rasam powder
Combine all the ingredients in a small broad non stick pan and saute on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes. Keep aside to cool completely.
Once cooled, blend in a mixer to a smooth powder.keep aside.
How to proceed
Combine the toovar dal with 1 cup of water in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
Blend the dal mixture using a hand blender till smooth.
Add the rasam powder into it, mix well and keep aside.
Combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic, tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt and 3 cups of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 8 to 10 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
Add the prepared daal rasam powder mixture, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally. keep aside.
For the tempering, heat the ghee in a small non- stick pan and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves.
When the seeds crackle, add the tempering to the prepared rasam, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.
Add the coriander leaves and mix well.
Served hot with rice.
